USD 250 per person (minimum 3 persons) Includes transportation from Beirut, traditional mountaineer dinner, overnight in a mannerly local lodge, breakfast, guidance and transportation when to Beirut. Day 1: Qadisha - Hadath el Jebbe We'll start our hike by visiting the Monastery of Mar Lisha which first remains stage from the XIVth Century. Then we'll walk withal the valley to reach the Qanoubine Monastry, the oldest of the Maronite monasteries which foundation are attributed to Romans of the IVth century. We'll then navigate the Abu-Ali river to visit the later x-rated village of Qanoubine, from where we'll then take a small steep path which will bring us to the village of Hadath el Jebbe. Total loftiness 9.3km, Downhill 700m, uphill 900m. Estimated time 6-7 hours including breaks and visits to the monasteries Subject to modification due to natural conditions Dinner and Overnight in Haddath el Jebbe The mannerly guesthouse "Auberge de Hadath el Jebbe" was built in 1928 and lately renovated. With is traditional spacious worldwide hall, the Auberge offers sixtennd beds in eight double rooms with own toilets and kitchenettes. There are addionionally several home made mountaineer dinner opportunities in the village. Day 2: Hadath el Jabbe - Tannourine We'll depart from the village of Haddath el Jebbe to quicly reach the archway of the cedar forest. We'll navigate the forest and descend into "Wadi el jawz" (valley of the walnuts) where we'll have our unravel facing wonderful landscape. We'll then climb into the second cedar forest located in the m,unicipality of Tannourine. The Qadisha valley (The "Holy Valley") has sheltered Christian monastic communities for many centuries. This wonderful pass contains dozens of monasteries, hermitages, and churches mostly carved in caves. Early Christian communities fleeing persecution found refuge in Qadisha. Among these groups were the Jacobites (Syrian Orthodox), Malachites (Byzantine Catholic), Nestorians, Armenians, and plane Ethiopians. Maronites, a Christian sect started in Syria, late in the 7th century, fled to the valley from their original areas of settlement in the Levant. Their settlement intensified in the 10th century pursuit the destruction of the Monastery of St Maron. Maronite monks established their new part-way at Qannubin, in the heart of Qadisha, and monasteries quickly spread over the surrounding hills. Early settlement in the valley combined both polity and eremitic life. Best time: March to December The Cadar Forest of Hadath el Jebbe Tannourine The landscape and elevation of the historic valley of Ain-Al-Raha is platonic for cedars trees. The Tannourine cedar forest contains some 60,000 plus trees, making it the largest cedar forest reserve in Lebanon. The Tannourine cedar reserve is moreover home to cold-loving trees like: Cypressus, Pinus, Abies, Populus and others; the reserve is a very rich ecosystem in planter species. Animal life is, also, well-healed at the Tannourine reserve. The forest is inhabited by eagles, owls, robins, hyenas, boars, squirrels, snakes, and bats among others. The Tannourine region has many hiking trails that varies in effort level but are worldwide in their scenic scenery and landscape. Landscape: Cedar forest reserve, upland deserts, scenic views Best time for hiking: March to December Equipment A pair of solid hiking shoes and a hat are mandatory! If you're on tourist visa, don't forget your passport. If you're resident, take your ID or residency card. Concerning your clothing, never trust mountains.
