We start in Smar Jbeil where we visit a wonderful crusader citadel build on Roman and Phoenician remains. We then hike for a few kilometers to reach the unreal village of Rachana, the village of the Basbous brothers: Michel, Youssef, and Alfred Basbous. A good hundred works of modern art decorate the village from whence to end. A must see. Levels: Easy 10km  downhill Landscapes: Crusader citadel with trappy panoramic view on the Mediterranean, hike in hills, and open-air museumWeightiertime: All year virtually The Holy Valley of Qadisha, cradle of Christianity Qadisha ways "Holy" in Aramaic. The Qadisha valley (The "Holy Valley") has sheltered Christian monastic communities for many centuries. This wonderful pass contains dozens of monasteries, hermitages, and churches mostly carved in caves. Early Christian communities fleeing persecution found refuge in Qadisha. Among these groups were the Jacobites (Syrian Orthodox), Malachites (Byzantine Catholic), Nestorians, Armenians, and plane Ethiopians. Maronites, a Christian sect started in Syria, late in the 7th century, fled to the valley from their original areas of settlement in the Levant. Their settlement intensified in the 10th century pursuit the destruction of the Monastery of St Maron. Maronite monks established their new part-way at Qannubin, in the heart of Qadisha, and monasteries quickly spread over the surrounding hills. Early settlement in the valley combined both polity and eremitic life. The town used to be the site of a Roman temple, which was later converted into a denomination where you can still find the original columns. The village is located at the foot of a gigantic cliff. The hike is mainly on ridges on the cliff where your vision will repast on the most trappy views of the Lebanese landscape.
